Hello Friends, I have always loved to work with various materials and see what I could create from them. I have found a
new love in working with gourds. Each gourd is unique in its own size and shape and challenges me to turn it into something
beautiful and uselful. I want to share some of my designs with you and hope that you enjoy what you see.
Several years ago I went to a fall fest and bought a few fresh gourds. I brought them home and hung them in my basement to
dry. I didn't pay much attention to them until one day I realized they had dried, turned very black and moldy. It was gettng
close to Christmas and I decided to make some gourd bird houses for gifts. I scubbed and cleaned them, decorated and painted
then gave them to my grown-up children for Christmas gifts. Some friends started giving me some of the gourds they raised
and I dried them and made them into gifts and gave them away, always giving a decorated gourd back to the one who so generously
gave me the gourds. One good friend asked me to make gourds for him to sell in his shop. I did and to my
amazement they sold. The sales were fast and I had all I could do to keep up with them...I had to find a source for dried
gourds and found one on the internet. I joined the American Gourd society, went to the Ohio Gourd Show and took some classes.
I have invested in some new tools, a good woodburner and a Micro Saw for easy cutting of the gourds. I now buy gourds that
are dried and cleaned and I can create to my hearts content with my now well used tools and I learn something new every day.
